Submitting extra information (in year transfers)

Some schools require additional evidence to show that you meet some of their criteria.

If your child is currently looked after by a local authority

If the child is currently looked after by a local authority, the social worker must make the application.

Applications must be made by someone with parental responsibility for the child. If the child is looked after by local authority, the state is considered their parent, not the foster parent.

Your child was previously looked after by a local authority

To apply, you must attach proof to your application. You will need to attach both:

  • a copy of the relevant court order, such as an adoption certificate
  • evidence your child was in care, such as a letter from the local authority or state

You can upload the evidence as a document when you apply online or include it with your paper application.

If you are applying based on other criteria, such as religion or you are a member of staff

Some schools will need you to send information to them such as evidence of your child's religion.

You may need to complete a supplementary information form (SIF). This is available on the school's website and must be returned to the school directly.

Moving address

In order for your proposed new address to be considered, you must provide independent confirmation.

  • If you are buying a property, you must provide:
    •  a solicitor’s letter confirming that contracts have been exchanged and a completion date set
  • If you are renting, you must provide:
    • a copy of the tenancy agreement signed by both parties - landlord and tenant(s)

Your proposed new address cannot be considered until independent confirmation of it is received.

You can upload the evidence when you apply online or include it with your paper application.

Children of UK service personnel or crown servants

For UK service personnel or crown servants, places may be allocated in advance of the pupils return to the UK where possible.

You must provide confirmation of posting. This must be an official letter that declares a relocation date and a unit postal address or quartering area address.

We may not be able to offer your child a school place at your preferred school if:

  • the year group is full or
  • your child did not qualify for a school place under the published admissions criteria

The measures set out in section 2.21 of the School Admissions Code 2021 do not give children of UK service personnel or crown servants priority for a school place over other families.
