Working Things Out programme

The Parents Plus: Working Things Out programme is for young people aged 11 to 17 years.

It is an eight‑week, evidence‑based course that runs alongside the Parents Plus Adolescent programme, giving teenagers and their parents tools that complement each other.

Teenagers often experience increased levels of anxiety, low mood, stress and self‑esteem difficulties. This programme uses practical Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) strategies to help young people understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills and build confidence in managing the challenges they face.

The programme is designed to improve wellbeing and reduce emotional and behavioural difficulties in adolescents.

What young people learn

Young people explore practical strategies to help them:

  • deal with anger and conflict in healthier ways
  • understand the steps involved in solving problems
  • develop helpful thinking patterns that reduce anxiety and low mood
  • manage feelings of sadness or low motivation
  • improve relationships with friends and family
  • reduce stress and build everyday coping skills

The programme is supportive, strengths‑focused and helps young people feel more in control of their emotions and behaviour.
