Junction improvements in the Queensway and B3440 area

The area of Worle between the Queensway, New Bristol Road and the B3440 slip roads by the Magistrates Court is one of the busiest in Weston-super-Mare.

We’re planning to make changes and improvements to the junctions on this route in 2025 and 2026. These will help the junctions work better for all traffic, bus passengers and people who walk, wheel or cycle.

Future development and population growth is on the way. We need to do what we can to help ease pressure and improve conditions on our roads in the years to come.

By making the junctions more efficient on our road network, we can improve traffic flow, while creating the infrastructure needed for high-quality current and future bus services, to make better use of our finite road space.

Where we're making changes

We’re making changes to

  • the Queensway and Walford Avenue junction
  • the Queensway and Bristol Road junction
  • the B3440 slip roads
  • the Victory roundabout and Summerhouse roundabout on New Bristol Road.

We are currently aiming to start works in autumn 2025 and finish spring 2026.

This scheme will represent an important investment in our wider road and bus network by the Government. Funding has been given through an external grant awarded specifically for this purpose.

More resilient and robust roads and buses

Outside of this scheme, the existing Worle bus interchange will also be upgraded for the community. This will include high-quality shelters, real-time information displays, seating and lighting.

The upgrade will give bus passengers a more appealing, comfortable and connected experience.

With better buses, more people can travel affordably, accessibly and sustainably and stay connected.

It means less pressure on our roads, better use of public space, a cleaner environment and that these vital services are protected for North Somerset.

Delivery partners

The Queensway, Bristol Road and B3440 junction improvement scheme is funded by the UK Government’s Department for Transport (DfT) and delivered by North Somerset Council.

The conditions of this funding mean it cannot be used for any non-BSIP related council activities or services, such as filling potholes in the non-scheme area.
