Personal care and domestic help (domiciliary care)

Domiciliary care is a range of care services you can receive in your own home, to help you cope with disability or illness.

Domiciliary care can

  • help you maintain your independence and remain living at home longer
  • prevent or delay the need to move to a care home
  • help you achieve daily tasks such as
    • getting out of bed
    • washing and dressing
    • preparing or accessing meals
    • using the toilet
  • improve your physical and emotional well-being
  • improve the physical and emotional well-being of your carer[s]

Together, we will talk about what you want to achieve and how you could achieve this yourself. This may be with the current support you have or through a care provider, direct payment or residential placement.

You could consider taking a direct payment which may offer choice, flexibility and control over the care you wish to receive.
