Temporary and occasional use notices

Temporary use notices

Temporary use notices (TUN) are used by operators who are licensed by the Gambling Commission. They provide temporary betting activities in a place which does not have the appropriate type of gambling premises licence.

For example:

  • casino
  • facilities for the playing of bingo
  • use of a gaming machine
  • other facilities for gaming
  • facilities for betting

Limits

Temporary use notices can only be used for periods of up to 21 days in any 12-month period.

A temporary use notice must be submitted at least three months before you would like the gambling or betting activity to take place.

We cannot refuse a temporary use notice unless there is an objection to it by any one of these authorities:

  • the licensing authority
  • Police
  • Gambling Commission
  • HM Revenue and Customs

They must submit their objections within 14 days of receiving a copy of the application.

You must serve a copy of the completed TUNform to

  • the Licensing Authority
  • Avon and Somerset Police
  • Gambling Commission
  • HM Revenue and Customs

Occasional use notices

Occasional use notices (OUN) are used by operators who are licensed by the Gambling Commission.

They provide temporary betting activities in a place which does not have the appropriate type of gambling premises licence. For example, at a ‘point to point’ horse racing event.

Limits

Occasional use notices can only be used for eight days or less, in one calendar year, at any one location or premises. If the event is to take place on consecutive days, one occasional use notice must be given for each day.

You must serve a copy of the completed OUN form to both the licensing authority and Avon and Somerset Police.

This notice can only be given by a person who is responsible for the administration of events on the track or the occupier of the track.

Policy

Please read our statement of principles before you apply.

Fees

Details of the fees related to this licence can be found in our fees and charges booklet.

Both the Licensing Authority and the responsible authorities can make objections to a TUN. Any objections must be made within 14 days of the notice. If we receive any objections, or object to the TUN ourselves, we will hold a hearing to determine the notice.

If we do not receive any objections, we will grant the TUN.

Occasional use notice

Once you have sent your OUN application to us, you must also notify Avon and Somerset Police.
