Licensed premises gaming permits

Adding gaming machines to your premises

Two machines or less

You can place up to two machines without a permit in pubs, bars and other businesses that sell alcohol. You are still required to notify us if you want to do this.

The person who holds the on-premises alcohol licence must give notice to the licensing authority. You must notify us of your intention to make gaming machines available for use. You also need to pay the prescribed fee.

If this person ceases to be the holder of the alcohol licence for the premises, this entitlement also ceases.

Three machines or more

If you want to provide three or more gaming machines in your licensed premises, you need to apply for a licensed premises gaming machine permit.

You will need to read and understand the requirements on this page before you submit an application. We cannot proceed with your application unless you give us all the information we need.

To apply for a licensed premises gaming machine permit, you must:

  • be aged 18 years old or over
  • have a premises licence for the relevant premises
  • be the holder of the premises licence for the relevant premises

If we grant you a permit for three or more machines, this will replace any previous entitlement of up to two machines.

Only businesses which have a Licensing Act 2003 premises licence are eligible for a licensed premises gaming machine permits.
