Weight limits on roads

We put weight limits on roads for structural or environmental reasons.

Traffic regulation orders put a legal limit on the weight and width of vehicles using certain routes, and signs showing the restrictions and alternative routes are put up.

This stops large and heavy vehicles using unsuitable roads, making the roads safer for other road users. Damage to buildings, roads and bridges is prevented and there are less issues with congestion.

The orders and their limits are enforced by the police. Contact us if you feel a weight limit is needed on a road.
