Staying safe on Weston beach

On Weston beach please be aware of

  • moving vehicles in car park areas 
  • mechanical beach cleaning equipment operating 
  • animals - dogs off lead and other animals including donkeys and horse and carts
  • BBQs, glass, and litter that may not have been disposed of properly

BBQs

BBQs are allowed on the beach, but they must meet the following safety guidelines.

  • they must be raised off the ground
  • they must not be located under any buildings or near anything that may be damaged by fire
  • they must be extinguished and removed from the beach, along with any litter
  • disposable BBQs and charcoal must not be placed in bins or buried in the sand

Fires

Fires are not permitted unless part of an organised activity licensed by the Seafront Team. 

These events will require

  • an application form
  • risk assessment
  • a minimum cover of £5 million Public Liability Insurance

Metal detectors

Metal detecting is allowed. 

There are no restrictions but all holes must be filled back in. 

Anything found of special interest must be reported to the Seafront Team.

Scattering of ashes

The scattering of ashes is not allowed in parks and open spaces. 

This is permitted on the coastline, such as on the beach and over the water.

Beach cleaning

Weston beach is cleaned every day except Christmas Day. The other beaches in North Somerset are cleaned regularly.

Weston main beach, Sand Bay and Clevedon beach are European bathing waters and are monitored by the Environment Agency from May to September.
