Staying healthy while in care

You have the right to good healthcare. You will keep seeing any doctors, therapists, dentists or other people you would normally see.

When you come into care, you will get a health assessment which will help us make a health plan. This will answer any questions you have about your health and get you the right support. We can then check-in regularly to make sure the plan is on track and you are staying healthy.

Staying healthy can mean lots of things. It could be looking after your mental health, keeping fit, having healthy teeth, having the right glasses, and eating the right foods. This means that being healthy can look different for different people. Going to the doctor and dentist regularly are the best ways to make sure you are staying healthy, and it is our job to help you with that.

Mental health

Looking after your mental health is one of the most important things in life. Many things can feel overwhelming but we are here to help and you are not alone.

You can talk to your social worker if you are struggling. It is really important you talk to them as soon as possible, even if you don’t feel like it’s important or worth talking about. This is because sometimes small problems can become big problems if we don’t do something about them.

There are so many people who want to help you, so if you feel like you can’t talk to one, there will be someone else you can talk to instead.

You can talk to:

  • your carer
  • your social worker
  • your teachers
  • your doctor
  • counselling services
  • online services
