People who will support you while you're in care

Your carer

Your carer gives you a safe home where you are supported in all parts of your life. They will look after you and help you with any areas of your life you are finding hard.

Your social worker

Your social worker checks that you are safe and happy. They will visit you to make sure everything is okay at home and in school.

Independent reviewing officer

Your independent reviewing officer checks that North Somerset Council is supporting you properly and that your placement is going well and you’re happy. They are independent from your social worker and will check that your plans are right. Their job is to:

  • chair review meetings
  • meet with you on your own to find out about your wishes and feelings
  • monitor the care you are receiving
  • resolve any disputes about the review or your care plan

Advocate

An advocate is someone who will support you and ensure that you know your rights and entitlements. They will help you to speak up at meetings so your voice is heard.

If you would like an advocate, please let your social worker or independent reviewing officer know or contact the advocacy and participation team.
