Climate funding

There is a wide range of climate-related funding available in England, many of which are aimed at community projects.

On this page you'll find a list of available grants or funding from either North Somerset Council or from external funding providers, which may be suitable for community groups, businesses and organisations.

Where possible we aim to keep this page updated with closing dates and links that will take you directly to the fund webpage.

Crown Commercial Service Carbon Net Zero

For public sector eligible grants, the CCS have collated a list of carbon net zero live funding and grants available from central government.

Alpkit Foundation

Grants are available to community groups, schools and other not-for-profit organisations for projects that champion education, participation, environment, diversity and health in the UK.

Asda Foundation Fund

The Asda Foundation supports small, grass roots organisations in several ways throughout the year.

Barclays Targeted Green Trade Loans

Funding to support the working capital needs of UK businesses and helping them to meet their environmental goals.

Big Local

Big Local is a place-based investment programme supporting residents in 150 Big Local areas around England to lead change in their area.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)

Small non-domestic property owners, e.g. landlords and those with properties in the private sector, in England or Wales, may be eligible for money off low carbon heating technologies.

Bristol Airport Local Community Fund

Grants are available to groups in the Bristol area for local projects that benefit the local community and the environment.

Clean Growth Fund

The Clean Growth Fund consists of £20 million in government funding with a further £20 million to be provided by private investors. It will use private sector expertise to identify UK businesses operating in the clean growth technology sector and help to commercialise them at scale.

Climate Action Fund

Grants are available for community-led partnerships in the UK to make changes in their community that they believe will have the biggest impact on climate change.

Climate Action Fund – Energy and Climate

Grants are available to local not-for-profit groups and partnerships for community-driven projects which address climate change while tackling energy challenges across the UK.

Community Infrastructure Levy

Local Authority Funding which is passed on to Town & Parish councils to enable them to support the development of the local council’s area, including infrastructure and demands of an area.

Connected for Warmth 

The Connected for Warmth programme installs heating and insulation measures into homes across Britain. The aim is to reduce energy bills, reduce carbon emissions and make homes comfortable.

Eco-Schools – UK

The Eco-Schools programme aims to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school for both pupils and for staff, and to engage the wider community.

Electric Vehicle (EV)

Funding to install electric vehicle chargepoints as a landlord, social housing provider or property factor.

Enovert Community Trust

The funding is intended to support community and environmental projects in the vicinity of Enovert’s operations across the UK.

Flexible Plastic Fund

Funding and support are available to UK businesses to incentivise their recycling of 'flexible' plastic items including bags, wrappers, films, pouches, packets and sachets.

Forest of Avon Trust - Trees for Climate Grant

Grants are available to organisations and landowners in the Forest of Avon to increase tree planting and natural regeneration in local communities.

Great British Insulation Scheme 

new government energy efficiency scheme (formerly known as ECO+) administered by Ofgem. It is designed to deliver improvements to the least energy-efficient homes in Great Britain to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills.

Historic England - Partnership Schemes in Conservation Areas

Funding is available for local authorities to run partnership schemes to improve conservation areas.

Grants are available for the repair and conservation of listed buildings, scheduled monuments and registered parks and gardens.

A new funding initiative is being launched to help small and medium-sized UK businesses decarbonise and invest in green projects.

Local Nature Recovery Scheme (Part of the Environmental Land Management Scheme)

Support for farmers in England for locally-targeted actions which make space for nature in the farmed landscape and countryside such as creating wildlife habitat, planting trees or restoring peat and wetland areas.

Lush Charity Pot

Grants are available to small grass-roots organisations working in environment, animal protection and human rights, with priority for less popular causes that aim to create long-term change and struggle to find funding.

Small one-off grants are available to small local charities and community groups for community projects in Great Britain that address themes set out by the funders.

MCS Charitable Foundation

Grants are available to public and not-for-profit organisations across the UK for projects that aim to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and low carbon technologies.

Naturesave Trust

A social impact scheme designed to support entrepreneurs working within private businesses, non-profit companies, charities and community interest companies, who have concepts and innovations that tackle climate change, lower energy bills and deliver tangible positive impacts to people and communities.

Net Zero: Business Grants Programme​ (North Somerset)

North Somerset Council is launching a Net Zero Business Grants Programme to support our small and medium size businesses (SMEs) with decarbonisation works and continue working towards a net zero North Somerset area.

The Postcode Local Trust is moving in 2021 from a grants programme that was previously available across Great Britain to one focused only on the west of England.

Grants are available for private and social landlords to support retrofit property improvements to reduce carbon emissions across housing stock.

Tree Council - Branching Out Fund

Grants are available to assist schools and community groups in undertaking tree planting projects across the UK.

Wessex Water Community Fund

Grants are available to community organisations in the Wessex Water area in the south west of England. Funding is for projects that address local needs and issues and improve the lives of local people, especially those who are in the most need of support.
