Grove Park

Grove Park is a large late 19th century town centre public park located around 250 meters east of the seafront in Weston-super-Mare.

A varied site made up of formal gardens, lawns, informal woodland walks, extensive rock gardens, ponds, a children’s play area and a Grade-II Listed octagonal bandstand.

The park includes many listed buildings, some currently used by Weston-super-Mare Town Council and a café concession.

There's plenty to watch while sitting in the gardens with plenty of wildlife in the park, including squirrels and a different bird species.

One of the most-visited features is a memorial garden created as a tribute to local TV presenter Jill Dando, by the BBC’s Ground Force team in 2001.

Plans for improvement

Plans for this project are underway with lead design architect company We Made That.

This project will include

  • a redesigned entrance with relaxing sitting areas
  • new planting
  • relocation of the public toilet block back into the park

The aim is to draw more people to and from the town centre to enjoy this beautiful space.

How to get involved

The park is managed by our Open Spaces team. The Friends of Grove Park is a volunteer group with an interest in the park, including organising activities and helping us to look after the space.

In May 2024, we announced that we had appointed architecture practice We Made That to design improvements to Grove Park. They will also deliver a programme to get people involved in that process.

Everyone is invited to take part. Watch this space for more updates.

This project has been made possible thanks to the council’s successful bid for £20 million from the UK government’s Levelling Up Fund.

This is part of North Somerset Council’s ambitious placemaking vision for Weston.
