Grove Park is a large late 19th century town centre public park located around 250 meters east of the seafront in Weston-super-Mare.
A varied site made up of formal gardens, lawns, informal woodland walks, extensive rock gardens, ponds, a children’s play area and a Grade-II Listed octagonal bandstand.
The park includes many listed buildings, some currently leased to Weston-super-Mare Town Council.
A café concession will be advertised in the new year for the business to open following the completion of our planned improvements. In the meantime, a temporary refreshment provider is operating from the park.
There's plenty to watch while sitting in the gardens with an interesting variety of wildlife in the park, including squirrels and a different species of birds and butterflies.
One of the most-visited features is a memorial garden created as a tribute to local TV presenter Jill Dando, by the BBC’s Ground Force team in 2001.
Plans for this project were created by lead design architect company We Made That.
The work being carried out includes:
The aim is to draw more people from the town centre to enjoy this beautiful green space. In turn, we hope this will boost footfall and support increased trade in the town.
People can find out more about the plans, including detailed drawings, on our Planning website. The planning application reference is 24/P/2162/R3. The application was approved in April 2025.
Work is due to be completed by spring 2026.
The park is managed by our Open Spaces team. Growing At Grove Park is a volunteer group with an interest in the park, including organising activities and helping us to look after the space.
In May 2024, we announced that we had appointed architecture practice We Made That to design improvements to Grove Park. During summer 2024, they delivered a programme to get people involved in that process.
That work, which included the ‘Grove Park Gathering’ public engagement event, helped to shape proposals.
More information was contained within a planning application, which was submitted in October 2024. People were given opportunity to have their say on the planning application.
The application was approved in April 2025.
This project has been made possible thanks to the council’s successful bid for £20 million from the UK government.
This is part of North Somerset Council’s ambitious placemaking vision for Weston.
