The new North Somerset Local Plan identifies where development can and cannot take place in North Somerset. It guides investment for new housing, jobs, transport and community facilities over the next 15 years.
This new pre-submission plan is the version that the council proposes to submit to the secretary of state for independent examination. The pre-submission plan 2040 was agreed by the Executive Committee on 17 July 2024.
The previous regulation 19 version of the plan (Autumn 2023) was prepared before government changes to national planning guidance took place. These changes related to the local housing target and approach to green belt. The new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) December 2023 stated that any plans at reg 19 stage would be assessed against the previous version of the NPPF. This is a new version of the reg 19 plan to be assessed at examination against the current NPPF.
The new reg 19 plan has been revised to contain responses to our previous consultation and other changes. These changes include the movement of the plan period to 2025-2040.
