Summer Reading Challenge

Image

Volunteers are needed in North Somerset libraries to help run the Summer Reading Challenge 2025.

Open to children aged 0-11, the Summer Reading Challenge helps to develop and encourage a love of reading for pleasure from a young age. It is also proven to help prevent the dip in literacy that may occur during the summer holidays.

Volunteers are vital in helping children engage with the challenge. The role involves talking to children about the books they have read, helping children choose books and handing out rewards.

This is a short-term volunteering opportunity, between Saturday 5 July and Saturday 13 September 2025 and is open to anyone aged 14 and over.

Flexible volunteering sessions are available at libraries across North Somerset, including selected stops on the mobile library, and full training will be provided.

If you are enthusiastic about encouraging children to enjoy reading, we would love to hear from you. You do not need any previous experience of volunteering or working in a library.

The closing date for volunteering applications is Monday 2 June.
