What we do

North Somerset Council is a unitary authority which means it is responsible for all the local government services.

This includes those done by district and county councils in other areas, such as social services, recycling and bins, roads, environmental protection, planning, libraries, housing and children’s centres.

Running so many front line services also means we have to employ staff to support the organisation such as accountants, solicitors, trainers, business analysts and graphic designers.

With around 1,700 employees in many different professions, based mainly at two hub buildings in Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare, the council is a complex organisation which offers many different career options.
