Fire safety

It is important to protect your family and property from the risk of fire. By fitting smoke alarms and testing them regularly you could give yourself vital seconds to be able to get everyone out of a house in time.

Remember if there is a fire in your home – get out, stay out and call 999.

As well as responding to emergencies, Avon Fire & Rescue provide a range of services aimed at protecting the community and preventing accidents from happening. These services include home fire safety visits and fire safety schemes for children.

Home fire safety visits

Through home fire safety visits, Avon Fire & Rescue provide practical advice and education to prevent fires starting in the first place. Anyone can request a free visit where a member of the fire service will come to your home to provide you with information about how to reduce the risk of a fire starting.

Fire safety for children

Most children show a natural interest and curiosity in fire. However, for some young people this interest develops into something more dangerous, putting themselves, their family, friends and homes at risk.

Avon Fire & Rescue provide a Firesetters scheme which takes a friendly approach to help children and young people understand the dangers of fire and the consequences of their actions.
