Help with buying a home

Help from the government to buy a home

There are a number of government schemes that could help you to get on the housing ladder.

North Somerset first time buyer loans

We have loans of up to £5,000 available to help North Somerset residents to buy their first home.

Community-led housing schemes

Community land trusts are non-profit, community-based organisations run by volunteers. They aim to develop housing which would be owned and controlled by the community and available at an affordable price.

The National Community Land Trusts website can tell you how to get started if you think you’d like to get involved in starting your own community-led housing scheme.

Community land trusts are relatively new in North Somerset. You can find more information on the Wessex Community Assets website.

Homes for older people

There are many housing options available to older people including sheltered housing, retirement properties and extra-care housing.
