Older people's housing

There are many housing options available to older people. If you’re not sure what would be best for you, you can complete a short survey on the Housing Options for Older People website.

Extra-care housing

Extra care housing offers more care and support than sheltered housing. People live in their own flat on a specially developed site, with a 24-hour professional care presence, enabling privacy and independence in a safe environment. Most extra care properties are available to rent but there are some shared ownership and leasehold properties to buy.

You can find out about eligibility and details of the North Somerset schemes in our extra care housing guide or by visiting our online directory.

Sheltered housing

Sheltered housing is designed to cater for retired and older people and create a community to promote friendship and a feeling of security. You will usually live in a one or two-bedroom flat or bungalow, with its own front door, in a block or group of similar properties. Some sheltered housing properties share communal facilities such as a lounge‚ laundry and garden.

Retirement properties for sale

We own a number of private retirement properties which people aged over 55 can buy. The properties are managed by Alliance Homes who provide services to offer residents a worry-free independent environment.
