Pharmaceutical needs assessment (PNA)

Each health and wellbeing board (HWB) must assess needs for pharmaceutical services in its area and to publish a statement of its assessment.

It is a statutory duty for us as the local authority to complete this assessment. It is then used to inform decision making by NHS England when considering applications for pharmacy provision in our area.

The NHS (Pharmaceutical Services and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013 sets out the minimum information that must be contained within a pharmaceutical needs assessment and outlines the process that must be followed in its development.
