Mortality

This mortality section of the joint strategic needs assessment (JSNA) aims to cover both life expectancy and the breadth of the range of causes of death.

Mortality is split out into themes across all causes, premature and preventable mortality. While there is some cross-over between themes each spotlight report gives an overview of the key indicators for that theme. The detailed data behind these can be accessed in the mortality section of the JSNA data dashboard

Community network project - inequities and social isolation in end-of-life care and bereavement

In November 2022, the University of Bristol invited North Somerset Council and other local partners to join a nine month project. Its aim was to create a network to bring together, as equal participants:

  • people with lived experience
  • health and social care providers
  • people providing community assets, including arts and culture initiatives
  • academics
  • public health experts.

The goal is to generate knowledge, commitment, capacity, and outputs that will directly tackle inequity in end-of-life care and bereavement. It will also work to support and lessen social isolation and loneliness.

This dashboard allows users to see:

  • death registration
  • care home beds
  • different characteristics and outcomes for residents living in the most and least deprived areas of North Somerset.

Further details about the research grant can be found on the University of Bristol website.
