About the A38 major road network

The A38 Major Road Network project will deliver improvements at nine locations along the A38. It will run between Barrow Street junction at Barrow Tanks and the Edithmead Roundabout (M5 J22). These are highlighted on the map on this page.

Five of these locations are within North Somerset. The remaining four are located within Somerset and are being delivered by Somerset Council. 

The proposed works will better connect local communities by improving options for getting around. This includes both active and sustainable travel. We will also address journey reliability times and road safety along the A38 corridor.

We outlined proposals for all nine locations in a public consultation in summer 2021. 

The Barrow Street junction works included in the outline business case for the A38 MRN have since been delivered. These were provided via our Bus Service Improvement Plan.
