Flood and drainage risk advice

Environment Agency advice

More information on flood risk and drainage can be found on the GOV.UK website under the following guidance:

Sequential and exception tests

Developers need to provide evidence that sequential or exception tests have been used in selecting a site. Permission will be refused if you do not provide this information.

Standing advice

The Environment Agency has prepared a matrix which shows the potential environmental risks of an application, confirming when they need to be consulted. This matrix also includes local standing advice for areas within Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon.

We can process low risk applications without consulting the Environment Agency.

Surface water drainage for small scale developments

Surface water run-off from impermeable surfaces such as roofs, driveways and patios must be contained within a development.

Strategic flood risk assessment

The assessment helps us consider flood risk as a planning issue and also when designing highway drainage schemes and preparing for emergencies.

Please see our strategic flood risk assessment page for more information.
