Leaves

Autumn leaf fall presents Glendale, our street cleaning contractor, with an enormous challenge when huge volumes of leaves fall to the ground in the space of a few weeks.

It’s hard to predict when the leaves will fall and impossible to ensure that all streets remain leaf-free. Our priority is to prevent fallen leaves from becoming a trip and slip hazard to pedestrians and from blocking the drains. Glendale's experienced management team directs the street sweepers to where they are most required. We do not collect leaves from private roads, driveways or forecourts.

Recycling process

Every year we collect nearly 1000 tonnes of leaf litter from roads and open spaces. Leaves collected are sent to recycling facilities in Wales where excess water is drained and recycled, litter is removed, shredded and recycled. Small stones that may be mixed in are filtered out, crushed and recycled. The remaining leaf waste is recycled into compost for brownfield sites such as building developments and golf courses. Almost nothing is wasted.

To report fallen leaves that may be hazardous to pedestrians or road users in a public place you will need to register and sign in to MyAccount.
