How to apply for or renew a blue badge

The blue badge service is run by the Department for Transport and you can apply on the GOV.UK website.

A blue badge costs £10 and usually lasts up to three years. You must reapply for a blue badge before your current one expires.

We will usually make a decision on your blue badge within 12 weeks, though this depends on whether your application needs a full assessment with input from a qualified specialist.

Renewing a blue badge

Blue badges do not automatically renew. You will receive a renewal notice a few weeks before your badge is due to expire and will need to reapply.

What you will need

When applying for or renewing a blue badge, you'll need a recent digital photo showing your head and shoulders.

You’ll also need a photo or scan of your:

  • proof of identity (such as a birth certificate, passport or driving licence)
  • proof of address (such as a Council Tax bill or government letter)
  • proof of benefits (if you get any)

You’ll also need to know:

  • your National Insurance number (if you have one)
  • the details of your current blue badge (if you're reapplying)

Applying for a blue badge is an online process. If you need help to complete your application, call us on 01934 888 888 and we will make an appointment to help you.
