Allotments

An allotment is an area of land that can be used to grow fruit, vegetables and other plants. People typically rent allotments from a private landlord or local authority.

A plot needs a commitment of about five or six hours a week to maintain, and there will be rental costs involved that vary depending on the location and size of your allotment.

Applying for an allotment

Allotment space is popular and there can be waiting lists in many areas.

Allotments in North Somerset are managed by town and parish councils. You will need to contact your town or parish council to enquire about their allotment provision.

The National Allotment Society website has more information about how you can get a plot.

Other allotment sites are provided by private landlords, including organisations like the Church of England.
