The prevention team provide support for children aged 10 to 18 who are:
- at risk of being criminalised for their offending or anti-social behaviours
- displaying harmful sexual behaviours
- displaying child to parent violence
We are a small team of qualified and experienced staff based within the Youth Justice and Prevention Service. All staff have completed training around understanding trauma and offer a trauma responsive service. We offer one to one support, short session work and group work. We carry out a full assessment and develop a plan of work with the child and their family and carers.
How we work
All work completed with children is on a voluntary engagement basis. We can meet children wherever they feel most comfortable, either in school or college, at home, in our building or in a community setting such as a youth club or café.
Some examples of the support we can offer include:
- engagement in positive activities including education, employment and hobbies
- support with physical, mental and emotional health work
- keeping safe
- understanding the harm and helping children repair the harm
- weapons awareness
- understanding the law
- sex and healthy relationship education
- children's online world
- referral to other support including speech and language assessment, mental health services, substance advice support and social prescribing
