Minor adaptations

Small changes to your home can make it safer for you.

For example

  • widening a narrow doorway for wheelchair access could make it easier for someone to get to the kitchen to make food and drinks
  • installing an outdoor railing could make it safer to access the bins or a get in a car or taxi

How much will it cost

Minor Adaptations that cost less than £1000 are provided free of charge.

Some equipment, like small ramps, can be reused. Please let us know if you no longer require that adaptation and we can share it with someone else in need.

If the adaptation we recommend costs more than £1000, we would usually refer to our housing Adaptation and Improvements Team to be considered for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG).

If you are not eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant, we may still be able to help through an alternative funding route.
