Support if you have a mental health condition

Mental health issues can sometimes affect your ability to live independently. If you are experiencing mental health issues, we work with our partners to ensure you have access to relevant information, advice and guidance.

If you need it, we may also be able to help arrange support with things such as

  • eating and drinking
  • keeping yourself clean
  • going to the toilet
  • being appropriately clothed
  • keeping safe in your home
  • keeping your home clean and tidy
  • seeing your family and friends
  • finding and attending work, training, education, or volunteering
  • making use of necessary facilities or services in the local community including public transport, and recreational facilities or services
  • carrying out any caring responsibilities you have for a child.

More information on how we can help is available in our dedicated care and support website section.

Additional mental health services and information can also be found in our Health and Wellbeing section. This includes details on local mental health services, self-care, and suicide prevention.

Integrated mental health services

To meet the needs of people with the most serious mental health conditions, we work in partnership with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP).

Some of our social and adult social care workers work in partnership with

  • psychiatrists
  • psychologists
  • occupational therapists
  • psychiatric nurses

to ensure that health and social care needs are considered together.

To access support from this team, you will usually need to be referred by a health professional, such as your GP.

Adult Intensive Services

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact AWP’s Adult Intensive Services.

For details on how to get support from Intensive Services see the AWP website.

Mental health and wellbeing Integrated Network Teams (MINTS)

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) are making updates to community mental health services. They are working to make changes that will support people to quickly access high-quality and personalised care closer to home.

New services include:

  • coproduced services for people requiring specialist support (such as eating disorders and personality disorders)
  • targeted action to address health inequalities
  • establishing integrated care through new Mental health and wellbeing Integrated Network Teams (MINTS)

More about MINTs

MINTs are place-based integrated teams that work to meet the diverse needs of communities. They provide people with wrap-around care to access mental health support.

The MINTs are being rolled-out across the area in phases. There will be different approaches to how you are referred to this service as capacity is increased.

MINTs aim to provide better support through greater integration. The team is a co-operative of representatives from primary, secondary and social care and VCSE organisations.

Through these teams, people with varied needs or who fall through the gaps between primary and secondary care will be supported. This marks a fundamental shift from reactive to proactive and preventive care.

Please see the Healthier Together website for updates.
