As part of this initiative, Building Digital UK (BDUK) has partnered with Openreach to roll out gigabit-capable broadband under a government-backed programme. This means many households in North Somerset can enjoy seamless internet connections without interruptions.
For residents, this enhanced connectivity offers significant improvements. Families can stream, surf, and download on multiple devices at the same time without buffering.
Better broadband will also improve access to crucial services, such as virtual healthcare appointments and remote learning opportunities.
Businesses in North Somerset will also benefit, with improved tools to grow, serve customers online, and embrace digital innovation. The project will provide resources for people to access online education and training, as well as support job applications and virtual interviews.
This programme focuses on areas that are not included in commercial broadband rollouts and where smaller procurements have not been viable. North Somerset is one of the first regions to benefit, alongside Mid Devon and South Devon. Together, these areas are receiving £77 million in investment, bringing gigabit-capable broadband to around 37,000 premises.
Residents are encouraged to check broadband performance and coverage through interactive online maps and tools. Residents and businesses can request a connection from a broadband service provider to benefit from the improved speeds.
