The Health Promotion Day will take place on Thursday 3 October, from 10am to 2pm at We Are Super Studios in The Sovereign, Weston-super-Mare.
The event, which has been organised by the council’s Better Health North Somerset team, will see more than 30 organisations come together to offer free support and advice on a wider range of issues including:
- Addiction support
- Help to stop smoking
- Mental health
- Housing advice
- Losing weight
- Eating well
- Getting active
- Liver testing
- Diabetes testing
- Sexual health
Citizens Advice North Somerset, Sirona care & health, Talk Club and Next link Domestic Abuse Services are just some of the organisations which will be there on the day, alongside the council’s own smokefree, healthy lifestyles, housing, waste and recycling, community meals and libraries teams.
It will be the second Health Promotion Day following the success of the inaugural event last year.
Cllr Jenna Ho Marris, North Somerset Council’s executive member for homes and health, said:
“I’m delighted we’re hosting a second winter health day after the huge success of last year’s. Thank you to our Better Health North Somerset team and all our partner organisations who’ll be taking part, offering free advice and support to local people.
“The winter months can be bad for our health, especially for older people or those with long-term conditions. The colder weather can pose health risks and respiratory illnesses like the flu and covid circulate more. Many people find the reduced daylight hours can affect their mental health, and the longer, darker nights can make it feel harder to stay active.
“But there’s things we can all do to take control of our health and stay well this winter. This event is a fabulous opportunity to find out more about the free help and support you can access locally.”
