Essential pothole and gully repairs will be completed on The Portbury Hundreds (A369) on Monday 13 May.

The road will be closed for one night between 8pm and 6am while the work is completed by the council's maintenance contractor North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC).

The closure will be for the entire length of the road from the junction with the M5 J19 interchange to its junction with Sheepway.

Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for roads said: "The Portbury Hundreds receives a huge amount of wear and tear every day and is in need of urgent treatment to fix potholes. We appreciate that this will cause some disruption but we would ask people to be patient while these essential works are completed.

"I completely recognise the frustrations of our residents with the condition of our roads which is a country-wide problem. Last year the council allocated an additional £2.5m in local funds for road maintenance to the £7.5m we received direct from government for this purpose, while almost half of local authorities are cutting or freezing these budgets.

"Our new highway contracts will enable us to make that money go further – but that’s against the backdrop of a £16bn national gap in funding that is needed to bring our roads back into an effective condition."
