A £40,000 scheme to improve the A371 Woodborough Road in Winscombe starts on Monday 25 July.

The work, to complete drainage improvements and carriageway surfacing, will be carried out using a road closure.

The scheme is being completed by North Somerset Council as a major part of its ongoing, low-cost annual maintenance programme which will prolong the life of the road, improve skid resistance and make it safer to drive on.

The road will be closed from the junction with Nippors Way to the junction with Rockeries Drive. The closure will start at 8am on Monday 25 July and be in place 24 hours for five days.

A diversion route will be in place and access will be maintained for residents and local businesses only. Signage will be in place throughout the works advising that businesses are open as usual and traffic marshals will be positioned at key locations to advise on access arrangements.

Cllr Steve Hogg, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for highways said: "We appreciate that this scheme will cause some disruption on this busy route. We would ask drivers to avoid the area if possible and be patient while this essential maintenance takes place."
