Clevedon seafront changes completed

Changes to Clevedon seafront have been completed.

The works, which began in mid-February, follow extensive consultation with local businesses, councillors and members of the public.

The updates include:

  • Re-introduction of sea facing parking
  • Retention of the one-way system with a contraflow cycle lane
  • Removal of the two-way cycle path and wavy line
  • Installation of loading bays and a coach drop off point
  • Adjustment of the roundabout to provide a standard mini roundabout
  • Removal of stone planters
  • Improved pedestrian crossing points
  • Introduction of vehicular access to the Promenade for boats and ice cream van
  •  Improved lineage and signage to support the one-way system.

Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's cabinet member with responsibility for highways and local ward member said: “The updates to Clevedon seafront are in line with the significant public feedback gathered over the last two years. We have listened to the local community and reinstated sea facing parking, replaced the two-way cycle path with a single contraflow cycle path and adjusted the roundabout to a traditional layout which has been enabled by changing the position of the cycle lane.

“We have worked with businesses and residents along the seafront to try to minimise disruption during the works but appreciate that the changes to the scheme have caused some difficulties.

“Our priority was to complete the work ahead of the May school holiday and before the summer season and we have achieved this. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and encourage all residents and visitors to come and support the seafront businesses that have been affected as you enjoy the new configuration.

"We will be adding planters to the area now the works have been completed and will be talking further to the community about what they would like to see and where specifically these will be placed.”
