Architects and engineers have now been appointed with work underway after North Somerset Council purchased Birnbeck pier and island earlier this year (July 2023).

Birnbeck Holdings Ltd have agreed to sell Birnbeck Pier to North Somerset Council today (Thursday 13 July), avoiding the need for a legal Compulsory Purchase Order Public Inquiry which was scheduled to take place in August.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has confirmed the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) inquiry regarding the transfer of Birnbeck Pier to North Somerset Council is set to take place on 8 to 10 August 2023.
