The coordinated “Winter of Action” activity is being rolled out in partnership with North Somerset Council’s Safer Communities team, Avon and Somerset Police, the Weston BID, outreach support services, and CCTV and Community Response teams and will target Weston-super-Mare town centre and surrounding hotspot locations.
As part of the programmed operation, activity includes high-visibility patrols, engagement with local businesses, welfare checks for vulnerable individuals, licensing visits and the use of anti-social behaviour powers where necessary. The activity forms part of a wider programme running throughout the winter and into early 2026, focusing on keeping North Somerset’s streets safe, reducing disorder and improving confidence among residents and businesses.
Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Community Services and Safety, said:
“We’re committed to working closely with Avon and Somerset Police and other partners to ensure our town centres remain safe, welcoming places for everyone. This “Winter of Action” programme of activity demonstrates our shared commitment to tackle the issues that matter most to our communities and I’m pleased that we’re able to step up our visibility and support teams and provide signposting and support to vulnerable people this winter.”
Weston Town Centre’s Neighborhood Sergeant Joe Pitman, said “This day of action shows what can be achieved when agencies work together with a shared goal of making our town centre safer. By combining enforcement with support and education, we are addressing the root causes of anti-social behaviour while protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Further Days of Action will take place regularly over the coming months as part of the North Somerset Safer Communities’ “Winter of Action”.
