Take part and help shape North Somerset’s natural environment

Businesses and organisations are invited to share their views on how they can help shape North Somerset’s natural environment.

North Somerset Council has partnered with Nature Broking, funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), to understand how local businesses and organisations can engage with the area’s natural environment and ensure future nature-based solutions are developed locally.

Feedback will directly contribute to creating opportunities that enhance biodiversity, support sustainable land management, and strengthen the local economy. This may include carbon and biodiversity projects, land management or wider sustainability initiatives.

This engagement forms part of the council’s wider UKSPF programme, which supports local businesses to reduce carbon emissions, enhance environmental resilience, and transition towards more sustainable operations.

The programme has previously included initiatives such as the Green Business Grants, which offered up to £10,000 to help businesses install energy efficiency upgrades that cut emissions and reduce operating costs. Earlier rounds of funding supported a wide range of improvements that are expected to reduce local carbon emissions by over 107 tonnes annually.

By gathering insights from businesses and organisations through this new research, North Somerset Council aims to shape the next generation of nature-based opportunities, ensuring they respond to local demand and deliver meaningful environmental and economic impact.

Cllr Annemieke Waite, Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment at North Somerset Council, said: “Nature is one of North Somerset’s greatest assets. By working together with our business community, we can unlock new opportunities that renew our landscapes, boost local prosperity, and help build a greener, more resilient future for everyone.”

Cllr Mark Canniford, Cabinet Member for the Economy, said: “Local businesses have a critical role to play in protecting and improving our natural environment. By sharing their views, they’ll directly influence how we design future opportunities that reduce carbon, improve biodiversity, and support good growth across North Somerset”.
