Sections of the A370 in Weston to close overnight
Two-night closures will be in place on the A370 in Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday and Thursday night this week.
As part of North Somerset Council’s ongoing commitment to improving the district’s roads, the council will be carrying out essential survey and investigation works along the A370 in preparation for future road maintenance schemes.
The road closures will also be used to complete essential maintenance works including tree cutting and litter picking.
In order to safely survey, measure and take core samples on this route, the road will be closed in two phases in both directions between 8pm and 6am.
On Wednesday 23 July, the A370 Herluin Way will be closed from the roundabout near McDonald's to the roundabout near Flowerdown Retail Park.
Traffic marshalls will be in place to help with access arrangements for residents affected by the closure.
Diversion signage will also be displayed to guide road users through or around the affected areas.
On Thursday 24 July, the A370 Somerset Avenue will be closed between the roundabout with Flowerdown Retail Park and the West Wick roundabout near Morrisons.

Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for roads said: “To help us complete these works efficiently and safely, we kindly ask for your patience and co-operation throughout the scheme.
“We need to complete this essential survey work in order to prepare for future maintenance schemes on this extremely busy route. We appreciate that closing the road will be inconvenient but it is a necessary step in our ongoing commitment to improving North Somerset’s roads.”
Cllr Mike Bell, Leader of North Somerset Council added: “I am delighted that we will be using the night closures to carry out litter picking too. I’ve been asking for this but it’s a difficult area to do this maintenance work safely. The night time closures provide the perfect opportunity.”
