A new, free, community event is coming to Ellenborough Park (West) in Weston-super-Mare and people of all ages are invited to get involved!

The first ever ParkPlay session in North Somerset will take place on Saturday 15 July from noon until 1.30pm. It will then run every Saturday at the park.

Ellenborough ParkPlay has been organised by North Somerset Council’s public health team, ParkPlay and PlayLeaders from the local community. This is the first of four ParkPlays to launch in Weston-super-Mare, starting over the summer.

ParkPlay, which first launched in the UK in 2021, encourages everyone to be more active and brings communities together, as Cllr Jenna Ho Marris, the council’s executive member for public health, explains:

“ParkPlay is all about building happier, healthier communities through the life-changing power of play. It’s active and inclusive, so everyone’s welcome. With informal, unstructured games and activities, ParkPlay has no end goal apart from enjoyment! So, if you’re local to Ellenborough Park please come along, make friends and have fun being active!”

Rick Jenner, Chief Executive Officer of ParkPlay, said: "ParkPlay offers people of all ages and abilities the chance to play together and connect in a relaxed, safe and welcoming setting. After a stressful, busy week, lots of people enjoy mucking about playing and hanging out with their friends and neighbours at ParkPlay.”

Cllr Mike Bell, Leader of the Council and ward member for Weston-super-Mare central ward added: “ParkPlay is the latest in a growing range of activities in Ellenborough Park West and a great opportunity for different generations to come together. The park has gone from strength to strength since opening to the public as a wellbeing park thanks to Weston-super-Mare Town Council."

Cllr Robert Payne, who is also ward member for Weston-super-Mare central ward, said: “Thank you to our public health team and the ParkLeaders from our community who'll be running these sessions. ParkPlay is run by the local community, for the local community. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone join together, get active and have fun.”
