Indoor lease space within the Cove
A new space ready for a concession, equipment hire and storage facility is now available within the Cove building on the promenade directly above Marine Lake. It has been created by re-using and repurposing space that was originally men’s public toilets to the left of the building. Designed with flexibility in mind, the 25m² indoor space could be the ideal space for all different types of businesses.
New self-contained unisex public toilets with direct access from the promenade, to include one accessible unit, have been created within space that was originally women’s public toilets to the right of the Cove building.
The RNLI Weston-super-Mare shop and visitor centre will continue to occupy the central section of the Cove building.
Two additional mobile trading opportunities
Alongside the new indoor unit, the council is also seeking two mobile traders to operate on the Marine Lake Plaza for 2026 – lease timeframes can be tailored to fit with the operator's business plan. These pitches offer a prominent location with strong footfall and a shared water and power supply.
These three lease opportunities offer the chance to be part of one of Weston’s most loved and thriving community spaces.
Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member responsible for seafronts, said: “Marine Lake is a much-loved destination on Weston’s seafront. These new leases present fantastic business opportunities – spaces to grow, thrive and become part of a really special community space in a truly unique location.
“We’re looking for operators with enthusiasm, creativity and a passion for Weston’s seafront. Whether you’re a watersports specialist, mobile trader or have a unique idea that fits the setting, we’d love to hear from you.
“Creating the new lease space in the Cove building is a key outcome from our Improving Weston programme. I look forward to the work being completed and seeing people benefit from the enhancements we’ve made. This will include a repaired and resurfaced lower walkway around the northern area of the lake, repaired, resurfaced and rebuilt steps and ramps, upgrading handrails, improved signage, upgraded public toilets, more cycle racks. The list goes on… When the family-friendly venue re-opens, it will be more welcoming, accessible and a safe place for people of all ages to enjoy a range of water-based activities all year round.”
How to apply
Businesses interested in any of the three opportunities should register their interest before 5:00pm on Wednesday 25 March by emailing concessions@n-somerset.gov.uk
Applicants will then receive a confirmation email containing application criteria. On-site visits with a seafront team member can be arranged upon request.
Those interested in all three opportunities are encouraged to apply. The council is particularly keen to hear from local and independent businesses looking to bring something unique, active, and community-focused to the area.
Marine Lake is currently closed to allow construction and refurbishment work to take place. The council’s appointed contractor, E J McGrath, started work in October 2025 and are on track to complete in May 2026. This project is part of the council’s ambitious placemaking vision for the town, made possible thanks to its successful bid for £20m from the UK government. Designs were shaped by local people, community groups and organisations through engagement led by We Made That, in collaboration with Super Culture. This included a free family-friendly public event – the ‘Grove Park Gathering’ – held in Grove Park in June 2024. For more information, visit: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/MarineLake
