The refreshed app builds on the success of the original, which was launched to help residents manage their recycling and waste. This new update goes much further, offering improved usability, new digital tools and better access to essential local services.
The updated app features a clean, modern look designed to make it easier for residents to navigate and find the services they need.
Personalised waste collection reminders
Once registered, users will be able to see their upcoming recycling and waste collection dates, complete with images of the correct containers to ensure they put out the right bins on the right day.
New AI tool to identify recyclables
A major new feature allows residents to take a photo of any item they are unsure about. The app will use AI technology to scan the image, identify the object, and tell the user exactly where and how it can be disposed of.
Have your say through consultation links
To support resident engagement, the updated app now includes a direct link to the council’s latest public consultations, making it easier for people to share their views on plans, proposals and local priorities.
Quick access to recycling centre booking system
Residents can also access the Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) booking system directly from the app, enabling easy booking for visits to recycling centres across North Somerset.
The booking system for the Weston-super-Mare site is now live and will be rolled out at the Portishead and Backwell sites on 2 March.
Report problems in your area
The new update introduces links to the council’s most-used online reporting tools, allowing residents to quickly report issues such as potholes, tree problems, or to sign up for services including garden waste collections.
Cllr Annemieke Waite, Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment at North Somerset Council said: “We're committed to making it easier for residents to access the services they rely on every day, and this major update to our app is a big step forward. The new features - from personalised waste reminders to the innovative AI recycling tool - are designed to save people time and make interacting with the council simpler and more intuitive.
“We're also pleased to give residents quicker access to consultations and reporting tools, helping everyone stay informed and have their say about what happens in their community.”
The North Somerset Council app is free to download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. If you already have the app downloaded on your phone, go to the Store to update it to the new version.
