New Tree Trail launches in Trendlewood Park, Nailsea

North Somerset Council is delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new Tree Trail in Trendlewood Park, Nailsea.

Designed to help people of all ages learn more about tree identification, the trail celebrates the rich variety of trees in our local green spaces.

The trail features 15 tree species, including a mix of native trees and a few fascinating non-native species found in the park.

Each tree is marked with a handcrafted sign made from recycled larch and cedar, sourced locally from Somerset Wood Recycling and beautifully carved, coloured, and stained by the talented team at Wraxall Men’s Shed.

This collaboration not only supports skilled local craftspeople but also promotes community wellbeing through meaningful, social woodworking projects.

Why learn to identify trees? Recognising different tree species helps deepen our connection with nature and strengthens our understanding of the natural world. Spotting unique features can spark curiosity and inspire people to care for and protect wildlife.

A huge thank you goes to The Friends of Trendlewood Park for their invaluable support and to Lindsay Moore, a local botanist, for advising on the species featured in the trail.

This project has been made possible through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Cllr Mike Solomon, Cabinet Member for Culture, Community Services and Safety said: "Our parks are vital spaces for wellbeing, learning, and community connection. The new Tree Trail in Trendlewood Park is a great way for residents to explore nature and discover the incredible diversity of trees right on their doorstep. We’re proud to support projects that bring people closer to the environment and celebrate local craftsmanship.”
