A new Cribbs Causeway bus service to launch this summer

A new service connecting Clevedon, Weston-in-Gordano, Portishead and Cribbs Causeway is to launch this summer. Starting Monday 5 June, the X10 will offer six trips a day (three round trips) Monday to Friday and eight trips (four round trips) on a Saturday.

The service was previously stopped due to low usage in 2021. Following a submitted petition of 3,000 residents, the council looked at other underutilised routes and re-routed the capacity to create a new service focused purely on taking residents to Cribbs Causeway.

To incorporate the X10, changes to other routes will include:

  • 57: This service will no longer run with the journey’s largely being picked up by the new demand transport service, WESTlink.
  • 59: This route will become a dedicated service for home to school journeys in the mornings and afternoons, continuing to take students to Gordano School.

Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's executive member for highways and transport, said: “As a Clevedon resident myself, I know how much this service has been missed by local people. I’m delighted that we have been able to listen and respond to the concerns raised by the people of Portishead and Clevedon to create a service that residents have petitioned for.

“The X10 will be available for 9 months and if the usage figures show it is a needed and utilised service, we’ll work with bus companies to continue the route. We now need users to take full advantage of the new service – so please do get back onto the bus.”

During the trial, usage of the X10 service will be monitored monthly. If the service proves popular, more journeys will be added.

The new X10 service is part of North Somerset’s Bus Improvement Service Plan (BSIP). Following a successful bid to the Department for Transport (DfT), over £105m of Government funding has been allocated for bus improvements, with £48m earmarked for capital improvements in North Somerset alone. £57.5m will be used as a pooled revenue fund with the West of England Combined Authority to enable delivery of the Bus Service Improvement Plan.
