Cllr Clare Hunt was elected as Chairperson, taking over from Cllr Peter Crew who held the role for the past year.
Cllr Caritas Charles was elected Vice-Chairperson taking over from Cllr Clare Hunt.
Cllr Clare Hunt has served as an elected member of the council for the last two years and represents the Nailsea Youngwood ward whilst Cllr Caritas Charles represents Portishead East.
Cllr Hunt said: “It’s a privilege to be elected as North Somerset Council’s Chairperson. I’m looking forward to the year ahead, meeting local people, attending charity and civic events on behalf of the council and championing local interests. I hope to make a positive difference wherever I can and my aims for the year ahead are to promote the wonderful area of North Somerset and particularly my hometown of Nailsea where I have personally received so much help and support.”
Over the last year, North Somerset Council’s Chair, Cllr Peter Crew, has attended numerous charity and civic events.
Cllr Crew said: “Being Chairperson of North Somerset Council has been one of the greatest years of my political career. My passion has always been to support our local economy and tourism, and I’ve enjoyed promoting North Somerset and the wonderful place we live in to communities and visitors during the last year. There are too many highlights to name, but some events that have particularly stood out for me include attending the Armed Forces Day and St George’s Day Parade.”
The Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson are non-political civic roles. Every year a councillor is selected to represent the council at civic events and to promote North Somerset.
Anyone who would like the Chairperson to attend a civic event should contact the Chairperson’s office at Chairpersonofthecouncil@n-somerset.gov.uk or call 01934 634902.
