Hutton Hill Road in Hutton has reopened after a 17-month closure.

The road was closed in February 2024 for safety reasons after a private wall collapsed.

North Somerset Council has worked closely with the property owners to enable them to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

The council closed the road after the structural collapse to avoid any further damage to nearby properties and to protect road users from falling stone.

The works to repair the failed wall were the responsibility of the relevant property owners and took time to repair due to the complexity of the situation.

Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for roads said she was pleased the road was open again.

“We appreciate this lengthy closure has been inconvenient for residents and road users but there was no alternative due to the extensive structural damage to the wall.

“We have worked with the owners to provide as much support and advice as we could but appreciate that this was a lengthy process.”

Cllr Mike Solomon, ward member for Hutton and Locking added: “We had to put safety first and that unfortunately meant a lengthy road closure.

“I am delighted that the road is open again and traffic is no longer diverted through other parts of the village.”
