Have your say on Pride in Place funding leadership – South Ward

Residents in Weston-super-Mare’s South Ward are being invited to take part in a panel that will help decide the future leadership of the Pride in Place programme.

Pride in Place is a 10-year government programme that places residents at the centre of decision-making and investment. South Ward has been identified to receive up to £20 million to support regeneration, strengthen communities and improve quality of life, with local people shaping priorities from the outset.

The panel will play a key role in the recruitment of the Independent Chair and Deputy Chair for the programme, ensuring that local voices directly influence who is appointed to lead this significant, long-term investment.

Members of the panel must be local residents or have strong links to the area. Panel members will take part in a short engagement exercise on Friday 27 February 2026 at the For All Healthy Living Company (68 Lonsdale Avenue, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset BS23 3SJ). This will take approximately four hours. Refreshments will be provided, and participants will receive vouchers in recognition of their contribution.

The panel will play a vital role in the interview process for the Chair and Deputy Chair roles, helping to assess candidates’ ability to work collaboratively, listen to residents, and uphold the community-led values of the programme.

Once the Chair and Deputy Chair are appointed, the next phase of the programme will be the recruitment of a resident-led Neighbourhood Board. This board will oversee delivery of Pride in Place in South Ward and will have strong links to the local area and accountability to the community.

Residents interested in joining the panel can contact Communities@n-somerset.gov.uk by Friday 20 February for more information.

Councillor James Clayton, North Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Pride in Place programme, said: “Pride in Place is about sharing power and building leadership from the ground up. The panel is a vital part of that process, ensuring local people have a real say in who leads this programme and how it develops. Pride in Place only works if it reflects the experiences, ambitions and ideas of the people who live here.”

Dan Aldridge, Labour MP for Weston-super-Mare, said: "Pride in Place is a huge opportunity for Weston — and particularly for our South Ward. This is about targeted investment where it can make the biggest difference: improving public spaces, supporting local businesses, restoring pride in our neighbourhoods and creating real opportunities for residents. South Ward has so much potential and such a strong community spirit, and this funding gives us the tools to back that up with action. It’s a real vote of confidence in the people who live and work there, and a chance to deliver lasting change."
