A Community Governance Review (CGR) is a legal review carried out every 10 to 15 years to make sure parish councils, parish wards and parish boundaries remain effective and reflect local communities. Please note this review only covers electoral arrangements at parish level; the electoral arrangements for North Somerset Council are reviewed separately.
The CGR began in February this year with an initial consultation asking residents and local organisations for feedback on possible changes.
Based on that feedback, draft recommendations were published. There is still time to comment on the draft recommendations with the consultation closing midnight on Friday 31 October. To read CGR draft recommendations for change, please visit: https://n-somerset.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2025-09/community%20governance%20review%202025%20-%20draft%20recommendations.pdf
Cllr Mike Bell, Leader of North Somerset Council, said: “There’s still time to have your say on the Community Governance Review consultation. This may lead to several changes at a Parish or Town council level where evidence shows this is in the best interests of communities. This could include name changes or changing the number of Parish or Town councillors. For a full list of proposed changes, please read the supporting consultation information.”
After the consultation closes on 31 October, the council will review all feedback and prepare a report for the Planning and Regulatory Committee in December. At that meeting, the committee will decide which of the draft recommendations to adopt.
