Garden waste collection day changing for most customers in North Somerset

North Somerset Council is changing the garden waste collection day for most customers. From the middle of February 2024, most customers will have their garden waste collected on a different day to their recycling and general waste.

All customers will be contacted by Friday 9 February with confirmation of their new garden waste collection day.

The collection dates in January will not change. You can check your collection date in January at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/calendar

The council has taken the decision to reorganise garden waste routes to make the service more efficient and sustainable. The new routes should create a more reliable service, helping crews to collect from every customer on their scheduled day.

The changes will also reduce carbon emissions, helping the council tackle the climate emergency. The journeys that the garden waste vehicles take will be reduced by around 11,000 miles, saving 21 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year.

Councillor Annemieke Waite, North Somerset Council’s executive member for climate, waste and sustainability, said: “By making these changes to our garden waste collection, we can help make the service even more dependable and sustainable for our customers.

“This is part of our work to tackle the climate emergency. Reducing the emissions of our vehicles supports our commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2030.”
