North Somerset Council’s Physical Activity Fund provides grants of up to £2,000 for community projects which will help deliver the outcomes and actions of the council’s Get Active strategy.
Applications are welcomed for projects which provide the opportunity for people to be more physically active, whether that’s through everyday activity or participating in sports, fitness groups or exercise classes. The closing date for funding applications is Saturday 31 January 2026.
Councillor Jenna Ho Marris, North Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Health, said: “We want North Somerset’s communities to be caring, healthy and safe, where people help each other to live well. There is a huge amount of evidence to prove that being physically active has the power to change lives for the better, and even small increases in activity levels can make a big difference to your health and wellbeing.
“We want to make it easy to apply, so if you’re part of a voluntary organisation, community group or sports club which is supporting people to get more active, just get in touch with the team at getactive@n-somerset.gov.uk and we can help - we’d love to hear from you!”
The fund has a particular focus on supporting people who face the biggest barriers in becoming more active. This includes anyone with a disability or living with a long-term health condition, as well as people from ethnically diverse communities, specific socio-economic groups and women.
Previous rounds of Physical Activity Fund grants have provided funding to a range of organisations, including British Bangladeshi Association North Somerset, Clevedon School Pickleball Club and Severn Community Therapy.
Kelly Steed from Severn Community Therapy, said: “So grateful to receive a grant to support physiotherapy-led silent discos in local care homes. It enabled many residents with long term conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia, arthritis and osteoporosis to be less fearful of falling or feeling pain, and reduced stiffness due to their bodies moving more freely.”
