Free compost for North Somerset residents

North Somerset Council is giving away 24 tonnes of free compost to mark International Composting Awareness Week (Sunday 7 to Saturday 13 May).

North Somerset residents will be able to collect the compost at one of two events:

  • Sunday 14 May – 10.30am to 1.30pm (or until stocks last) at Hornets Rugby Club, Hutton Moor Road, Weston-super-Mare BS22 8LY
  • Thursday 18 May – 10.30am to 1.30pm (or until stock lasts) at Hangstones Pavilion, Stowey Road, Yatton BS49 4HS

Anyone wishing to take part in the compost giveaway must take their own spade and sturdy containers or bags to put the compost in. They’ll need to be able to load the compost themselves and are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Master Composters will be on hand to give out home composting advice and tips.

Anyone interested in becoming a Master Composter should email Kate Eastment, Garden Organic’s Project Coordinator in North Somerset, at keastment@gardenorganic.org.uk

The council is encouraging all residents who produce garden waste to visit its website at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/composting where they can find details of a free e-learning course, our Master Composter scheme and more.

The compost has been produced from garden waste collected from homes across North Somerset and donated thanks to Enovert and transferred by North Somerset Environment Company, two council suppliers.
